The following lots of numismatic books are from the library of my old friend and former colleague, Wiley Westerfield, who passed away recently. I met Wiley near the beginning of my ancient coin business. He was a printer who knew his trade as well as coins and most of my illustrated catalogues in the 1960's and 1970's he printed for me.
One day we thought it might be fun to go through my personal library and see if we could find a title worth reprinting. We came up with Frederick W. Madden's History of Jewish Coinage, a century old corpus in serious need of revision. We felt that if we were to reprint an older book, we should bring it up to date. We hired a scholar, Rohe Reidenbach, skilled in paleo-Hebrew as well as the coins of the ancient Jewish people, and we published a hard bound copy in 1967. (At about the same time in Israel, a firm there did the same reprint without the modern up-dating that we did. It certainly interfered with our profits, but for the next ten years or so we reprinted a number of books that are offered here.) Prior to adopting our own names and calling our reprint firm Malter-Westerfield, we used the name Pegasus Publishing. We found out there was another company with that same name.
The balance of Wiley's library is included after this offering of the Malter-Westerfield Publishing Co. books..
