1-A beautiful Persian silver gilt handle from the 19th century, of attractive 6 " length, all over hand chased with various wild animals and mounted on a well spotted snake wood shaft with horn ferrule. The top of the handle, which is in very good condition, is decorated with two styled birds. Overall length 34 ". Estimate $600 - $700.

2-A very decorative dress hard stone English Victorian knob from the 19th century, 1 " diameter, on its engine turned, translucent enameled and with colored flowers decorated " silver collar. The red carnelian stone ball with decorative layers of various colors is in perfect condition and it is mounted on a good snake wood shaft with stag horn ferrule. Overall length 36 ". Estimate $500 - $700

3-An attractive and large sterling silver German crook handle from the turn of the century, 4 " wide, decorated with a horse head and mounted on an ebony shaft with horn ferrule. The fine modeled horse head with halter has a thick mane and glass eyes. It is very handy and nice to carry and bears German hallmarks. The condition is best. Overall length 35". Estimate: $700 - $900.

4-An attractive baroque silver knob, German 19th century, 2 " high, cast and chased with two winged angel heads between rich baroque decorations and flowers. The knob is mounted on a rose wood shaft with horn ferrule, it has German hallmarks and is in best condition. Overall length 36 ". Estimate $600 - $800

5-A magnificent and large Chinese export ivory handle from the 19th century, 8 " high, all over extremely fine carved with flowers and mounted on a beautiful snake wood shaft with stag horn ferrule. All the flowers are very dense and detailed executed with many undercuts, the top is decorated with a single blossom. The ivory is of finest quality and bright color and the condition perfect. Overall length 38 ". Estimate $900 - $1,100

6-Large and signed Japanese ivory knob from the 19th century, 2 " high, well carved in the shape of a lady's head with round face and traditional hairstyle on its original real full bark malacca shaft with replaced stag horn ferrule and round ivory eyelets with silk tassel. The style and high quality of the carving and the signature on the side are a clue that the cane could be attributed to the famous Tokyo carving school. Overall length 38 ". Estimate $800 - $1,000.

7-A silver French crook handle from the late 19th century, 4 " high and 4 " wide, hand chased with empire decorations and mounted on a good snake wood shaft with horn ferrule. Excellent condition. Overall length 32 ". Estimate $500 - $700.

8-An appealing and unusual colonial bronze head, 5 " wide and 4" high, modeled and cast in wire technique in the styled shape of a horse and mounted on a black ebony shaft with horn ferrule. The solid handle is very decorative and in best condition. Overall length 34". Estimate $400 - $500

9-A magnificent French cane from first half of the 19th century, with a splendid and very large 5 " high and 3 " wide ivory handle carved with a Pan graciously carrying a Venus on its original real full bark malacca shaft with bronze ferrule. The Pan has a an old man's head with curly hair and beard, a smiling face and his attributes: The horns, the long pointed ears and the goat legs with short tail and horse hoofs. The Venus with superb body has long hair and an astonished expression on her face. The masterly executed carving of the monogrammed handle is from the highest grade ever, the proportions and the detail brilliant. It is in best condition, the bright color of the ivory shows very well the material grain and matches perfectly to the dark amber coloration of the malacca. Overall length 39". Estimate $3.500 - $4.500

10-A very precious French cane from the turn of the century, with a large 2 " hard stone knob in the shape of a cat's head. The well cut smoky quartz knob has textured detail with frosted surface. The nose and the ear tips of the cat are polished, the eyes are inset with glossy rock crystal naturally painted from the back side with a golden pupil. The knob has its original engine turned and green translucent enameled collar framed on both ends with a golden ring and is mounted on a black ebony shaft with horn ferrule. Marvelous object in best available quality and perfect condition. Overall length 39". Estimate $2,500 - 3,000.

11-A French ivory handle from the 19th century, 4 " wide, precisely carved with foliage and mounted on a black ebony shaft with stag horn ferrule. Elegant walking cane in handy shape and very good condition. Overall length 35 ". Estimate $400 - $500.

12-A superb English ivory handle from the 19th century with two intricate snakes, 4" wide, mounted on a black ebony shaft with horn ferrule and chased " silver collar. The snakes have their two heads on the front of the handle and show their forked tongue. Their entwined bodies have fine scales. The condition of the ivory is very good, there is little wear on the surface and the patina very decorative. Overall length 38 ". Estimate $1,300 - $1,600

13-A good and early ivory Italian knob from the period around 1800, 3 " high, carved after the antique in the shape of a Greek philosopher and mounted on a snake wood shaft with horn ferrule. The carving is from highest grade, academically and finely executed with many details, the patina very smooth and luminous and the condition perfect. Themes after the antique were very fashionable in the "Revival" period around 1800 especially when the Europeans started with the "Grand Tour" which lead them all over the eastern parts of the Mediterranean sea which are very rich in history. 14-A superb English cane from the second half of the 19th century, with a large 3 " wide ivory handle. It is naturalistically carved in the shape of an eagle's head with very fine detail and two colored glass eyes, on its black ebony shaft with bronze ferrule and beautiful 1" wide chased silver collar. The cane is in best condition and the handle with good patina has a very strong expression. Overall length 36 ". Estimate $1,300 - 1,600

15-An ivory Japanese handle from the 19th century, 8" high, decoratively carved with a dragon in the clouds. He has a long scaled body with two feet, each with three claws, his horned head is frightening and has a long mustache. The handle is in very good condition and mounted on a good snake wood shaft with horn ferrule. Overall length 36 ". Estimate $500 - $700

16-An exclusive Russian rock crystal opera handle from the end of the 19th century, in 4 " wide, plain classical shape with its beautiful silver collar, mounted on a black ebony shaft with horn ferrule. The handle is cut from a good and transparent stone, its surface is very smooth and well polished and its large size handy and attractive. Hard stone handles were the great specialty of the leading Russian jewelers of their time like Carl Faberge and there were terribly expensive. Overall length 37". Estimate $800 - $1,000

17-A very decorative French scrambled glass knob from the second half of the 19th century, 2 " high, mushroom shaped in brilliant colors with blue predominance mounted on a black ebony shaft with horn ferrule and original, 1" high, silver collar with styled leaves. Overall length 39". Estimate $600 - $700.

18-A magnificent German cane from the middle of the 19th century, with a very large silver knob 5" high, in the shape of a beauty with long curly hair tied up under a small hat with feather. She carries long earrings and a pendant on a band over her generous breast. The very well chased handle is on its original real full bark, amber colored, malacca shaft with horn ferrule. The cane, with outstanding appeal, is in excellent original condition. Overall length 38 ". Estimate $1,600 - 1,800.

19-A superb and large sterling silver German crook handle from the turn of the century, decorated with an eagle's head on the front and mounted on an ebony shaft with horn ferrule. The eagle has a strong opened beak, sharp two colored glass eyes and styled feathers on the neck. The 4 " high and 4 " wide handle is in best chased condition and bears German hallmarks. Overall length 35 ". Estimate: $800 - $900.

20-A Viennese Automated glove holder cane from the 19th century , 38 " long, with fine carved 3" high pear wood handle in the shape of a French bulldog with lined face, glass eyes and ivory ears. When a lever under the chin is depressed, his mouth opens to show his lower jaw with red tongue and teeth. Original cherry branch shaft with attractive red-brown color and plain ivory collar and brown horn ferrule. Overall length 38". Estimate: $600 - $800.

21-An English ivory knob from the beginning of the 19th century, 1 " high, carved in the shape of a right fist holding a snake on its original ebony shaft with replaced horn ferrule. The hand has nice fingers and nails and comes out from a frilled cuff. The snake has a styled head with a long tongue. There has been a lot of speculation about this frequent appearing motive and one tends to believe that these canes belonged to free Masons practicing medicine. The ivory has a bright patina, the condition is very good. Overall length 37". Estimate $400 - $600.

22- A good American gold presentation handle in large "L" shape, well jeweled and engraved on the top REV. JACKSON Mc. FADDEN DEC. 25, 1910, on a magnificent snake wood shaft with horn ferrule. The 3 " wide superb handle is from the highest grade and in mint condition, the total length of the cane is 35 ". Estimate: $900 - $1,100

23-A very decorative KPM porcelain handle from the 19th century, 2 " high, modeled in the shape of a dried tree trunk and color painted on the top with a lady in a garden in the taste of the 18th century. The handle with generous gold highlights on the side, is mounted on a rose wood shaft with horn ferrule and bronze collar. K(nigliche) P(orzellan) M(anufactur) from Berlin, was one of the three leading German porcelain manufacturers and its products make great collectables. Overall length 36". Estimate $600 - $800.

24-A long and superb silver Japanese handle from the 19th century, of 8 " exceptionally high size, mounted on a good snake wood shaft with horn ferrule. The handle which is signed on an engraved Kakihan seal, is masterly hand chased with chrysanthemums and it is in best condition. The flowers were very important in the Japanese tradition, and chrysanthemums were very highly regarded as the emperor flowers. Overall length 34 ". Estimate $900 - $1,100.

25-A good Anglo-Indian ivory handle from the 19th century, 6 " high, superbly carved with a mythological scene and mounted on a beautiful coromandel shaft with horn ferrule. One dancing girl is seen over a divinity in a foliage cage. The whole handle is a "Tour De Force" masterly executed from one single piece of ivory with numerous undercuts from all sides. The patina is good and the condition perfect. Overall length 39 ". Estimate $600 - $700.

26-A silver "L" shaped handle from the end of the 19th century, 4 " wide and 3 " high, decorated on the front with a heavy boar head. The handle with German hallmarks is cast and chased with very fine detail and in good condition. Overall length 36". Estimate $700 - $900.

27-An outstanding French ivory handle from the 19th century, 5" high, delicately carved with the portrait of a lady heavily hanged with pearls and flowers. The whole handle is all over richly and deeply carved with baroque decorations and mounted on a snake wood shaft with ivory ferrule and chased silver collar. The design and the carving quality are from the highest available grade, in the Paris overloaded taste. Unfortunately the handle has some dents and some wear, the patina is warm and luminous. Overall length 39 ". Estimate $900 - $1,200.

28-A quality French ivory handle with two hands in each other, 4 " high, mounted on a marvelous snake wood shaft with stag horn ferrule. The two right hands under a riled knob have rather thick fingers with short nails and frilled cuffs. This attractive motive is common in a smaller size, it is generally seen as a symbol of friendship and is probably in relation with the Odd Fellows. The condition is very good, the patina smooth and bright. Overall length 40 ". Estimate $1,200 - $1,500.

29-A decorative English ivory knob from the 19th century, 2 " wide, carved in the shape of a biting dog with cut ears, wide opened mouth and two colored glass eyes. The knob with handy shape has a smooth surface with nice patina, it is in best condition and is mounted on a beautiful snake wood shaft with ivory ferrule and " wide gilt collar. Overall length 37 ". Estimate $600 - $700.

30-A very decorative English cane from the 19th century, with 7 " high and 8" wide large stag horn handle, all over detailed carved with a fox hunt: Several beaters and riders with a pack of hounds follow the foxes in the forest. On the eye of the handle there is a good portrait of a fox. The handle, in very good condition and with nice patina, has its original grooved oak shaft with long steel ferrule and leather collar. Overall length 34 ". Estimate $700 - $900.

31-An outstanding English cane from the 19th century, with 4" high ivory handle carved with patterns from Byzantine church decorations on its original and attractive real full bark red malacca shaft with bronze ferrule and plain " silver collar with English hallmarks. The handle has bright patina on one side and a dark stripe on the other. The cane, unique in its kind, was probably commissioned by an architecture art lover after a special design from the orient empire of the 10th century. Overall length 39 ". Estimate $700 - $900.

32-A superb English ivory handle from the 19th century carved with an elephant family, mounted on a black ebony shaft with ivory ferrule. The 5 " wide and 3 " high handle of exceptional design has a big male with large ears and tusks on the front, he leads the five other animals behind him. The scene is very well catched, each of the animals having a different position. The carving is from the highest grade, very precise and with many undercuts. The plinth under the elephants decorated with rocks gives the handle the ultimate wild touch. The condition is excellent with a good patina. Overall length 37". Estimate $1,500 - $2,000.

33-A very decorative English Victorian dandy cane from the 19th century. The knob is a precious Lapis Lazuli ball of 1 " diameter with gilt and marked collar and ebony shaft with horn ferrule. The Lapis Lazuli is of finest blue with gold veins, the ebony deep black. Total length 37 ". Estimate: $400 - $600.

34-A large Japanese ivory crook handle from the 19th century, 5" wide and 3" high, in attractive and handy plain shape precisely carved on the front in very low relief with a monkey. It is mounted on rose wood shaft with horn ferrule and turned ivory collar. The design and the execution are outstanding, in best Netsuke carver tradition, and the condition perfect. Overall length 35 ". Estimate $700 - $800.

35-A good Chinese export cane from the 19th century, with 2" high ivory "Luck bringing" ball on its stepped malacca shaft with white metal ferrule and plain collar. The ball is carved from one single piece of ivory, with eight balls in each other all superbly decorated with finest carvings. The patina is very good and the original condition excellent. Overall length 33 ". Estimate $800 - $1,000.

36-A very decorative French cane from the 19th century with 3" high ivory knob carved as a Pierrot playing the guitar his dog beside him on its original full bark malacca shaft with replaced bronze ferrule and ivory eyelets with silk tassel. Pierrot has the typical bold head, he wears his wide dress with large fringed collar and his dog is taking part to the serenade. The handle is simply charming, the carving extremely detailed, even the tongue of the dog can be seen. The condition is excellent. Overall length is 37 ". Estimate $1,100 -$1,300.

37-An attractive American ivory knob from the 19th century, 1 " high, carved in the shape of an eagle's head with strong beak and glass eyes. The feathers are well carved, the patina and condition very good. The knob is mounted on a rose wood shaft with horn ferrule. Overall length 37 ". Estimate $400 - $ 500.

38-A very good French cane from the beginning of the 19th century, with a large ivory handle, 4" high. It is carved on one side with Fortuna a corn of abundance filled with flowers over her right shoulder and elaborated foliage on the other on its original real full bark malacca shaft with replaced stag horn ferrule. The handle has an unusual but very attractive angular shape, its design and carving are rich in decorations and are of French taste. The condition is good, the patina smooth and with luminous surface. Overall length 40 ". Estimate $1,300 - $1,500.

39-An elegant German Sterling 925 silver Art Nouveau handle from the turn of the century, 4 " wide, in outstanding flowing design with open-rail on the underside, mounted on a deep black ebony shaft with real horn ferrule. Excellent condition. Overall length 34 ". Estimate: $500 - $700.

40-A good "L" shaped French ivory handle from the 19th centtury, 4 " wide, well carved with a horse's head on the front and mounted on a snake wood shaft with horn ferrule and 1 " wide chased and gilt collar. The side looking horse's head has a thick mane and blown nostrils. The very handy carving has a beautiful patina and the condition is good. Overall length 33 ". Estimate $800 - $1,000.

41-A large English ivory handle from the first half of the 19th century, 3 " high, naturalistically carved with a lion head and mounted on a beautiful snake wood shaft with horn ferrule. The well executed lion portrait in the taste of the 18th century has strong character. The head has an opened mouth, sharp teeth and thick mane. It has few surface scratches and a heavy patina. Total length 34 ". Estimate: $700 - $900.

42-An important and very large English Masonic ivory knob from the middle of the 19th century, 3" high, naturalistically carved in the shape of a skull with two whirls, mounted on a deep black ebony shaft with horn ferrule and wide plain silver collar of " with hallmarks. The work on the knob is very fine and detailed, the teeth and facial bone structure are superb and the condition excellent with an attractive smooth surface and decent warm patina. Total length 37". Estimate: $1,600 - $1,800.

43-A good French Dieppe ivory knob from the first half of the 19th century, 2" high, carved in the shape of an old man's bust after the antique. His face has a large beard and his very nicely carved hair is decorated with a laurel crown. The knob is in perfect condition and very good patina, it is mounted on a good snake wood shaft with horn ferrule. Overall length 33 ". Estimate $700 - $900.

44-An important German Masonic silver handle from the 19th century, mounted on a black ebony shaft with horn ferrule. The cast 4 " wide and superbly chased handle is decorated on the front with a skull wearing a laurel wreath on plinth. Behind the skull there is a styled owl head between two bat wings, one on each side. Very good condition with dark patina. Overall length 34 ". Estimate: $1,100 - $1,400.

45-A very elegant German 4 " large silver handle from the end of the 19th century, in curved shape, hand chased on both sides with laurels and mounted on a beautiful coromandel shaft with horn ferrule. The exceptional design is of a great master's hand, the condition perfect. Overall length 36 ". Estimate $800 - $1,000

46-A very fine and large American ivory handle from the 19th century, 4 " high, with an eagle and a snake in Civil War motif.: The eagle (The North) fights the snake (The South). The handle is mounted on a black ebony shaft with horn ferrule and plain " high gilt collar. The carving is excellent, the detail very fine, even the thin and very delicate tongue of the snake can be seen. The condition is very good with warm and bright patina. Overall length 39". Estimate $1,000 - $1,200.

48-A l9th century Continental dress cane, consisting of a stained elephant ivory handle with a stylized silver snake fully encircling the handle. Mounted on a shaft of Satin wood with stag horn ferrule. Overall length 37 ". Estimate $350 . $500.

49-A Dartmouth cane, so.called because a number of canes of this type were carved by the same hand, all of them having a polychromed American Indian head handle above a shaft that is left uncarved. The cane would then be sold at Dartmouth College, either to the senior class or to a Greek or other social organization, so that its members could all initial the shaft. This particular cane shows an engraved bi.plane, Greek symbols and the names "HERK", "Porky", "SEXY PREXY" and Wobble", among others. Horn ferrule. Overall length 36". (See Snyder, Canes from the Seventeenth to the Twentieth Centurv, p. 10.) Estimate $ 400 . $500.

50-An American folk art cane with L handle carved in great detail the full 5 " length into an alligator in medium to full relief with curled tail. Handle and shaft of River Cypress. An excellent example of a Black.carved cane, CA 1880, from the Jacksonville (Fla.) School, most probably sold on the streets of Atlanta. Overall length 34 ". Estimate $400 . $600.

51-An American folk art cane with a 1 " bulbous knob handle and four whimsically carved animal heads with polychromed burgundy eyes in a staggered treatment in full relief and covering fully 360 degrees around the shaft, starting 6" from the top and running 4" down to a point 10" from the top. Blond finish. Overall length 34 ". Estimate $500 . $600.

52-A rare and very important American historical cane, being a 2 " ivory knob handle joined to a piece of turned planking taken from the U.S.S. Constitution by a " silver collar bearing the inscription "Geo. T. Wilder Constitution 1797" The U.S.S. Constitution was the American frigate carrying 44 guns, known as "Old Ironsides". Launched in Boston in 1797, she served in both the War with Tripoli and the War of 1812. All parts original. Overall length 36". Estimate $1,200 . $1,500.

53-Art Nouveaux dress cane with L handle, with sterling spiral bands at the handle's elbow and its end mount, with the end cap monogrammed "E.G.C." Two.metal ferrule. Overall length 35 ". Estimate $250 . $400.

54-Chiseled 1 " silver ball knob with hallmarks handle and " silver collar atop a fluted 3 " ivory decorative extender mounted on an ebony shaft with stag horn ferrule. English l9th century. Overall length 35". Estimate $450 . $650.

55-Doctor's cane, carved from one piece of wood, with a round knob handle and twin snakes encircling the length of the shaft. Overall length 34". Estimate $500 - $700.

56-English "Sunday Stick", used for practicing one's golf game on a Sunday after church, at a time in the late l9th C. when the strictures of the Church of England prohibited one's golfing on the Lord's Day. Monogrammed "A.K.B.". Ivory collar. Fruitwood shaft. Brass ferrule. Metal Club head pommels. Overall length 35". Estimate $400 . $600.

57-An American folk art cane, CA 1890, surmounted by the carved head of a man, with middle.parted hair, wide eyebrows and mustaches and beard. Bark retained on shaft. Original finish. Overall length 33 ". Estimate $400 . $500.

58-Rare G.A.R. patinated metal semi crook.handled cane. On the outfacing side an eagle, clutching crossed swords in its talons, below which waves an unfurled flag with anchor. On one side of the handle are another anchor, crossed cannons and the Seal of Peace, showing the North and the South at the peace table, around which appear the words "Grand Army of the Republic" and the dates "1865.1881". On the opposite side appear crossed bayonets and the same Seal. The letters "G.A.R.", in relief, dominate the collar. Ebonized shaft. Overall length 35 ". Estimate $500 . $600.

59-A magnificent parquetry cane with many hundreds of separate pieces of wood inlaid in the shaft in a series of four bands of inlay, separated by bands of fruitwood and mahogany. Wooden knob handle and original metal ferrule. Overall length 35". Estimate:$600 . $800.

60-An unusual American folk art walking stick, consisting of a pierced.ball grip, brass ring collar and carved diamondback snake encircling the cherry.stained oak shaft. Overall length 30 ". Estimate $350 . $500.

61-An American folk art cane of varnished maple, CA 1800, with a flat.topped 3" ball grip handle, a floating collar, ball.in.cage carver's exercise, and on the shaft itself a 25" snake opposing a l4" alligator. Copper ferrule. Overall length 35 ". Estimate $650 . $850.

62-Folk art "Totem Stick", arrestingly carved with a snake encircling a female effigy, atop which a male effigy, atop which a bird. Polychrome traces. Overall length 43 ". Estimate $ 800 - $1,000.

63-A rare English Document cane, consisting of a full.bark, honey.toned malacca shaft with crook malacca handle, separated by a 1" hallmarked silver collar with top ring which screws onto the shaft with steel fittings and which opens to reveal a 21" metal cylinder with cork plug. Real horn ferrule. Overall length 36". Estimate $600 . $900.

64-Horse Buyer's cane, used to measure the height of a horse in hands, through the use of a calibrated wood and brass extension mechanism with its own operative perpendicular bubble level, all of which is concealed within the shaft and can be withdrawn for use. (Very rarely is the water still present in the level and the bubble still working, as here.). Antler handle, silver collar, bamboo shaft, brass ferrule. Overall length 38". Estimate $800 . $1,000.

65An unusual camera monopod cane, with a 1 " ball handle which screws onto the 31" aluminum extension (80.90 years ago, aluminum was a highly prized and very expensive metal). A " screw can be made to extend from the top of the ball to insert into the camera base. Marked DA.LITE SCREEN CO. CHICAGO. PAT. No. 20167444 and PAT. No. 1993485. Overall length,unextended for use as cane, 36 ". Estimate $400 . $600.

66-A good English gambler cane from the 19th century, with 2 " high artistically turned ivory knob with five dice under a wide glass top which can be shaken for games. It is on its real full bark malacca shaft with replaced stag horn ferrule. The ivory knob which has a very handy shape and smooth surface has few decorative age lines. Overall length 37 ". Estimate $800 - $1,000

. 67-A superb English sword cane from the 19th, with rare natural asymmetrical grown Tonkin bamboo shaft and bronze ferrule with a magnificent 19 " long strong square blade grooved and fine etched on its four sides. The quarter turn locking mechanism is perfectly working and the original condition very good. The amber color of the bamboo is from the age of over 130 years. Overall length 35 ". Estimate $1,000 - $1,200.

68-An English "Pencil" system cane from the turn of the century, all in malacca with plain 5 " wide crook handle, horn ferrule and 9 carat solid gold removable pencil on the hand shoulder. The pencil bears English hallmarks and the completely original condition of the cane is good. Overall length 36 ". Estimate $400 - $600.

69-A good French 9mm Gun cane from the 19th century, from Manufrance with double rim fire in completely original condition and perfect full function. The 4" high and 3 " wide unscrewing crutch blond handle has on its shoulder the thumb which can be cocked by the steel feather in the ferrule, the steel shaft is covered by a beautifully spotted light brown pepper bamboo. For similar pieces see Catherine Dike, Cane Curiosa, page 329 32/15. Overall length 35". Estimate $800 - $900.

70-An exceptional English cane from the 19th century with ivory handle with three dog heads. The 4 " wide ivory consistent handle is carved in low relief with three different dog portraits one behind the other. All of them have nicely inlayed black eyes and collar belts, one with a buckle. Original, beautiful, blond, real full bark malacca shaft with bronze ferrule and wide silver collar engraved with monogram and foliage, with Birmingham hallmarks 1890. The condition is superb. Overall length 36 ". Estimate $1,300 - $1,600.

71- A decorative English cane from the 19th century, with hippopotamus tooth handle carved with two lion heads facing each other. Both have wide opened mouths with glass eyes and strong expressions. He has an astonished expression and one could speculate that he is wondering himself where the rats which are supposed to be in the box remain. 91-An excellent example of a field microscope cane, consisting of an all.brass microscope, together with the original specimen slide. The microscope itself, measuring 3 " long x 1" wide, has a pivoting circular mirrored light gathering source, as well as a spring action slide mount. The microscope is held secure in the shaft within a metal cylinder created for that purpose. At the bottom of that cylindrical opening is a partial closure which is still wide enough to accommodate the original microscope slide, which has a magnifying specimen well. The massive 2" x 1 " hallmarked silver straight grip handle, surmounted by its engraving of a winged crown with laurel leaves, the insignia of an English medical society, screws onto the stout, stained bamboo shaft with original rubber ferrule. The compact has its original mirror, with no cracks or flaking, and also has its original powder and puff (rare in itself!), all in perfect condition. He rests on a heavy cane with his left hand and holds a thick book with the other. A money purse is over his feet. His character full face with strong expression is oversized and fills half of the handle which is mounted on a good snake wood shaft with ivory ferrule and plain gilt ring collar. The handle which is in perfect condition and has a beautiful luminous surface could be seen as a temptation to represent the few interests of the man in high age. The original yellow real full bark malacca shaft has a long stag horn ferrule and turned ivory collar. The rough carving and the unusual surface gives to the handle a strong appeal. 102-A good English Masonic cane from the 19th century with ivory knob, 2,5" high, carved in the shape of a right hand holding an egg in an upright position. The hand has long fingers with cultured nails and frill buttoned cuff. The original real full bark malacca shaft has a warm amber color, its blond real horn ferrule and plain " wide silver collar with London hallmarks. The complete original condition is superb, the overall length is 37,5". The right hand is superbly worked with refined fingers and cultured long nails, the naturally bent whale bone shaft, is attractively decorated with four different patterns.
