1. Books: Islamic Korans. Lot of three small volumes (32mo) manuscripts, each apparently a Koran. Two in full leather tooled bindings, the third is untooled. All appear to be 19th centiury or earlier. A great study group! $750/3
2. Books: Burma, 19th century. Burmese Temple Sutra Book, c. 1825 with 24 karat gold and red lacquered cover garnished with glass and stone gems. Within the thick covers are sixteen gilt gold and black laquered religious texts. Dimensions 24" x 6.25" x 1.5". A marvelous specimen. $1300

6. Books: Burma. 19th century. Burmese Temple Sutra Book, c. 1850 with elaborately painted red cover boards and fourteen panels of black and silver script quite meticulously written with red painted decoration. The outside boards are red on the inside and gold on the outside with fine red incised drawings. Two panels are filled with red painted scenes. (One chipped on edge.) D: 20.5" x 5" x 1.25". $750
7. Burma -- painting. Pair of coloful rubbings in reds, golds, and greens, on rice paper. Both with matching mattes and fine marbelize dframes. One a triad of galloping horses, and other a ceremonial barge on the banks before a temple. Framed size: 26" x 30"; 24" x 31". $75/2
8. Burma -- painting. Colorful yet somber-hued acrylic painting of a Burmese market scene, showing shoppers abnd vendors of bananas and platains. Framed size: 22" x 28.5". $350
9. Burma -- painting. Expressive study of native woman nursing infant, while an older sibling clambers on her knee to watch. The woman calmly gazes off, her eyes lowered, while she puffs on her typical brass bowl pipe of the region. Matted and framed; image size: 25.5" x 21.75". $500

17. France, Napoleon Engraving. Paul Delaroche (after, ca. 1838). Hand tinted engraving by Aristide Louis, from 1841, of Delaroche's famed and widely reproduced painting of Napoleon standing with one hand in his waistcoat. Print nicely preserved with vibrant colors, in antique frame. Print size: 16.5" x 12". The original painting at that time in the collection of the Countess of Sandwich. $250
18. Haitian Painting, by Barkaza Roho. Colorful, amusing oil painting of animals’ music concert. Six of the animals musicians on various insrtuments, with only those of the apes electrified. In the background, other pairs of animals dance. Framed size: 20.5" x 29.5". $550
19. Indian Miniatures. India, late 19th-early 20th century. Lot of two Moghul-style illuminated pages. One with portrait of finely attired Maharaja standing in profile, holding cup with nimbus about his head. On other, a beautiful lady stands holding a dish. Both illustrations nicely painted; nasta'liq inscriptions above and below. Pictures matted; visible size: 7.75" x4.7". $225/2
20. Italy, Venice, c. 16th century. An elaborately illustrated frontispiece(?) in vivid colors and gold on vellum. One side the page divided into two panels: above, the lion of St. Mark by fortified hill around which a road wraps. Below, coats of arms: four oval shields, each with different device, in beribboned cartouches. Other side of page with octagonal vignette showing the enthroned Doge holding scales and sword, all within ornate Renaissance foliate border. Art finely preserved. Mounted between two thick pieces of plastic. D: 8.2"x 5.7" $400
21. Asian Art Varia: an odd lot consisting of these treasures: numerous Siamese/Burman black folio leaves with white line drawings, and three unidentified gilt rubbings. FABULOUS!!! $50/lot

Homann c. 1716, engraver: AEGYPTUS HODIERNA, colored copper plate engraved map of Egypt as described by Paul Lucas, 1664-1737, traveller, archaeologist, and antiquarian to King Louis XIV. 29. American Artist: Dale Rayburn (1942 -). Framed oil painting: "Dreams of the Past." inscribed on back of painting, along with autograph. Dramatic frontal portrait of bearded old man staring openly at the viewre. Behind him, smaller images of him recedign into the dark background. Signed "Rayburn" at lower right. In ornate antique-style frame. Painting size: 16" x 20". $900
Born in the South into a farming family in 1942, he was reared in an environment that continues to be strongly reflected in his paintings. The artist became inclined towards descriptive works at an early age, winning his first community recognition at thirteen. Earning a B.A. in Art in 1964, he continues to paint every phase of Southern life using vivid realism and a unique blend of color and talent.

Above is a finely painted scene depicting two whale boats attacking a submerged whale. Atop and below are two over-sized sperm whales. The popular theme GREASY LUCK TO WHALERS is below the water line of the painting and just above the pasted-on Robinson logo. 13 x 10.5" framed. $150

41. American or European, room (or dressing) two-panel screen, ca.1895-1920’s. Attractively hand-painted, set in scrolled frames. Interior panels with idyllic tableaux: roses on balluster railing amid delicate trees, vines, and peacock. Continued on other panel to show peacock gazing out upon two distant swans in pool. Backs of panels have realistically rendered flower-filled jardinieres. Ht: 61"; W:24.75". Desirable and not often encountered. $800
42. Antique Wall Mirror (perhaps Italian). Charming decorative mirror, dark-stained with insets of rose sprays in high relief, these highlighted in blue, green, and gold. At top a similar crest of acanthus palmettes and arabesques. Size: 29" x 16". $300

49. Continental Europe. Regency-style divan, with restrained gold-leafed frame with discreet volute and floral ornament carving. 52. Continental Europe, perhaps French, ca. 19th century. Ivory (talc?) bottle from a Travelling Set, with carved crowned monogram, most likely Royal. Excellent condition with nice colour, and of course, perfect! H: 4.25". Lid and base unscrew. A lovely and no doubt rare item, beautifully preserved. $400
53. Continental Europe, later Victorian Era. A tortoise-shell change purse with inlaid gold/gilt fittings; the interior with compartments, and delicate latch closure. Condition excellent and scarce thus. L: 3" x1.75". Nice. $250
54. Continental -- France or Italy. A tripod "tip-up top" circular inlaid marquetry table with bucolic motif depicting gardening implements and floral sprays, ebonised base likely refinished. Original bronze fittings on legs, with brass mounts around rim of table-top. An attractive item, a little work would render it a most pleasing addition to one's salon. D: 17"; H: 32 ". $650
55. Continental Europe, Victorian. A "Farthingale" wood and rattan seat in the Neoclassic French taste: openwork frame with carefully carved floral and moulded decoration. The back with finely-crafted cane weaving. A few weak spots in the rattan but sound, the wood having a nice brown patina. W: 35"; H: 26". $600
56. Continental Europe, Victorian. A pair of attractive marquetry side chairs, covered in grosse-pointe needlework. Frame itself squared and severe with more exhuberant detailing to back. Openwork panel with well-turned balusters; inlay quality quite fine. The wood has a golden tone. A handsome pair in nice shape. $800/2
57. Continental, Late Georgian. A corner table constructed of a very thick (ca.1/4 inch plus) walnut veneer over a solid wood frame with cabriolet legs, both nicely carved with floral and cartouche reliefs. Comes with separate white and grey scrolled-edge marble top. A nice item, showing how furniture USED to be made! W.20.5"; H: 31.5" (with top). $800
58. Continental, Victorian. A hung corner cabinet: gilded exterior, with the glass faced door frame carved and gilt in traditional Baroque style over soft wood solids. The exterior is cloth-covered, the interior lined with old (ca. 18th cent.) satin embroidery, shelves of oak. H: 59"; W:13". $500
59. England, ca.1835. A French oak and Danish walnut, Sheraton-style long-case 8-day "Grandfather" clock; signed "HOGART LONDON" on the enamel face, which is decorated with scrolling foliage, sea serpents, and gilt brass metal fittings. Glass appears original. H: ca.7.5 feet Handsome showpiece once restored, as the wood is quite nice!! $2500

61. Czechoslovakia. A very interesting crystal sculpture by KOSTA, signed by the artist "warff". 12.5 inches tall, it resembles a three-sided obelisk, but with an abstract design showing through the polished face. A very lovely object! Scarce and collectible. $400
62. Decorative Wall Mirror, ca.1930’s - early 40’s. Vanity mirror, almost shield-shaped with beveled edging. The narrow wooden frame esentially a Deco version of Lois XIV, with pendant corners, beaded borders, and stylized floral spray at top. The wood gilded and silvered. Size: 31" x 24". $400
63. Display Cabinets. Both custom made: on desk-like pedestal, one side a narrow slab and the other with drawers, with added decorative molding. The dispay with sturdy anodized aluminum frame, heavy glass, and sliding lockable doors. Average size: 50"x20"x33.5". Both would refinish nicely. $500/2
64. Doll Collection & Oddments. A box filled with dolls of all sizes, and their pillows. The larger items fully dressed, many with nice bisque heads. Small dolls also bisque, articulated. A very nice lot, worthy of identification because there is quality here. About 13 dolls, excluding pillows(several). There are possible treasures in this box!! $650/lot
65. Early Paper Ephemera. A good lot of paper ephemera of predominantly late 19th and turn of the century items. Included are old advertisement (and a fine hand painted ad placard, Edwardian England), many loose illustrations from books (some frameable), a wide selection of sheet music, a few issues of Hearth and Home, a woman's newspaper/magazine, and a few issues of Good Stories, c. 1920's. Rounding out the lot, two serial publications, The History of Our Country, with chromolithographic covers, and Famous Composers and Their Works, published in Boston and the American Portrait Gallery, with fine illustrations. 66. Early Photos. A most interesting assemblage of material including two boxes of glass negative plates, possibly Austrian, c. pre-1920's. Early albumin prints of landmarks and people of 19th century Burma, two illustrated picture albums of Baalbek and Ireland, 19th century photo portraits, an immigration visa from Germany, dated 1926 and more. $150/lot
67. England. A large wallet made of reptile skin with silver mounts, hallmarked Birmingham 1895. Also a box, with enamelled machine-patterned lid, and hallmarked Birmingham 1911. Also a silver display "casket" on ball feet and with machine-patterned lid, and original velvet fitted liner. Three very nice items and quite useable! Wallet: 4" x 5.5"; box: 1.5" in diam.; casket: 3.7" long. $350/3
68. England, ca. 1922 and earlier. A fine little antique sterling silver lot of spoons. Including 5 small demi-tasse by Walker & Hall, Sheffield, ca. 1922; a Georgian condiment ladle, ca. 1809; an Edwardian condiment spoon; three foreign inscribed teaspoons. Best piece a sterling ladle, Georgian ca. 1809, with rod-like handle of twisted baleen(?); bowl with engraved initials: "P.P". L: 3.25" - 8". $500/11
69. England, ca.1930. Brass cash register by "National Cash Register Co., Ltd". Repair guarantee dated 14, Nov. 1930; keys 1/2d to 5/-. Very ornate and quite lovely! H: 16.5"; W: 13.75". $1000
70. England/Burma, Georgian-Victorian Period. Interesting and attractive set of silver "berry" spoons, mostly of George III date plus some Victorian, which were later enriched with repousse work and engraving. The plain, simple spoons were engraved on their ovate handles with floral arabesques. The bowls with were worked raised fruit and leaves motifs and then gilt. Spoons mostly in three sizes: tea, soup, and serving, with hallmarks of most of the dates falling inbetween 1790 and 1820, and a few with chop marks. Forty-one pieces totalling over 40 oz. of silver. Nice group! $3500/41
With the increasing cultivation and popularity of the strawberry in early 19th century England, around 1850 it became fashionable among the Victorians to present as gifts "berry" (i.e., strawberry) spoons. These were usually plain earlier spoons embossed with foliage, fruit, or flowers. Many of these spoons are marked pre-1800. Whether these alterations to the above items is English or Burmese is difficult to ascertain. Some of the spoons do carry chopmarks. Unlike other types of later-decorated silver, the value of "berry" spoons is usually double that of the plain spoons.
71. England, late 19th century. A "British Bulldog" pocket pistol, nickel plated, with short, rounded, hard rubber grips. Six-shot doulble-action revolver. Stamped number 726, also with trademark dog’s head. L: 6.75". Well preserved with much of nickel finish remaining. A fine decorator’s piece. $350

72. England, late 19th century. Another "British Bulldog" pocket pistol like previous but a little smaller, and with slight differences. Perhaps an older model. Not bad shape with perhaps half of nickel finish remaining; with nicely checquered wood grips. Sound and workable. A fine decorator’s piece. L: 6.1". $200
73. England, Victorian - Edwardian Eras. Four hallmarked items: cobalt glass lined salt and pepper holders with attractive openwork frames. Also a silver tube from travelling set with monogram. A little tarnished, otherwise sound. Last an Edwardian small conical case, engraved, with cute little collapsible cigar holder within, also engraved. H: 1-3 in. Good lot. $300/4
74. Fabric lot. Five items: an "Indonesian" silk(?) wraparound shawl ca.114" x 22"; a beaded cotten batting-filled pin-cushion, 8 inches long; also two Victorian purses, one with embroidered scenes showing couples, with silvered fittings; plus a silk chiffon with gold thread embroidered flowers, ornate gilt fittings; and lastly, a 171 inch long "belt" of cloth, beads and yarn. A fun lot for dress-up! $150/5
75. Fabric lot. With five items -- two might be clothes for a large doll: a chiffon & lacework/embroidered slip, L: 35", and an apron with embroidered hem, L: 28"; embroidered and woven multicoloured "curtains", likely Afghan, 12" x 33.5" each; and lastly, two items of lacework: a runner 18" x 52" with box lacework fringe, and a table covering, with lacework and large, 204" x 152". 76. France. A lovely lot of two ceramic boxes, Sevres/Limoges in excellent condition. The hexagonal box with blue and gold foliage, diam: 2.75"; and the other a rectangular box, lavendar with gilt and floral cartouche, size: 2.25" x 1.5". $200/2
77. France, Haviland/Limoges chinaware: four flat cups and saucers, with two two-handled soups, no saucers. All are very ornate and in excellent condition. $150/10
78. France. Two woven tapestries: 37" x 19", showing a fox hunt (with horses, hounds, etc); the other 25" x 39", showing an outdoor scene with women, wine casks, painter, etc. Both nice wall displays. Tapestries appear to be sound. $200/2
79. Furniture varia: wrought iron frames, along with three large bevelled glass tops (ca.7/16th in. thick), two steel artist-inspired chairs, starkly geometric in form, as well as anumber of marble bases in soft creme-tan colour. A veritable "living-room-in-a-lot"!!! $1000/lot
80. Furniture varia: slipper chair with baloon back, semi-cabriolet legs, front have ball feet. nicely carved with florals and arabesques, and all gilt frame. With attractive silk damask seat. (ca.1800??) H: 34"; W.17". $450

Glass varia exotica: six beakers in thin, fine patterned design, three large and three small; plus novelty liquor glass with three bowls that join above the stem; an attractive engraved goblet with blown spiral interior to stem; and lastly an amethyst-coloured liquor goblet with long twisted stem. 82. Gold lot. Nice little group of gold jewelry pieces. Including: a 14 kt twisted wire tie tac with fine cultured pearl; a handsome Edwardian match safe, with machine patterning, London hallmark, 9 kt; drop pendant in "Italo-Gothic" style, perhaps American, ca. 1900-20; stick pin in white and yellow gold with central diamond chip; Italian-looking robust 14 kt gold pendant, sort of Baroquish, with micro-mosaic of flower; a braided ring; a 14 kt pin set with agate cabochon; and a large 4 ducat of Franz Joseph I of Austria (restrike) set in reddish gold pendant bezel. Fun and attractive stuff here! $850/8

124. Ship Model: "H.M.S. Bounty." Another superbly detailed and finely crafted model of this ship of 1787, one of the most famous (or notorious) in British naval history. The ship three masted, with four cannon and four assault guns. The model is made to scale, of teak, mohagany and boxwood, with sails at full to partially furled, and completely rigged. L: 30.5"; on walnut stand within oak and glass case. A marvelous decorator’s and historical conversation piece. $3000

The Pandora retrieved the non-mutinous survivors of the Bounty affair at Tahiti to return them to England. Sadly the ship sunk en route with all aboard off the horn of the Cape of Good Hope.

133. Persia, Luristan or Khurvun, ca. 1000 BC. Large, finely burnished red ware vessel of ovoid shape with strongly carinated shuolders. On one side a long projecting, angular trough-like spout encircled with raised ribbing; at opposite side a vertical raised rib. End of spout fragmentary with part of tip remaining but not attached. At base, repairs with slight restoration. Overall a very well crafted and handsome object. Proper restoration would make this a most elegant antiquity indeed! H: 9.25". $500

137. Persia, early 20th century. Heavy footed Qajar-style bowl in cast brass, and copper plated. Exterior enriched with chased work: floral medallions alternate with semi-circualar medials with hunting scenes ands arabesques. Band of script below the rim. D: 10" Attractive. $250

A deep footed bowl or cauldron in Qajar-style like previous but the schema of the ornament more elaborate and more richly detailed -- the workmanship also finer. Chased details include: several bands chased with floral arabesques, and two with fine nasta’liq script. Also row of alternating lobed and ovoid medallions with arabesques, some with animals. D: 10.75". The heavy cast bowl suggestive of an earlier Safavid piece being reworked in the 19th century. Choice. $650

166. Thailand or Cambodia, and Burma, ca. 13th-17th Century. Two good-sized early "Hentha" bronze weights of "nesting bird" type, in bronze with lead cores in the base. Some flaking away of bronze on of weight’s base, but still choice as it is rare to see theses early examples, plus this with stamped royal or control mark. Balance a multitude of small to micro-sized weights in solid bronze. Included are both hentha and lion types. Again, much earlier than usuisal material here. H: 0.3"-3.25". Pot of dark tan color with elaborate painted designs in red and black. On one side projecting head and paws of small animal, with details and body elaborated in black paint. On other side, facing head of quadruped rendered in black and red, with nose and ears in relief. Vessel reassembled from numerous large fragments. Could be restored into an impressive object! 341. Ecuador, Tumaco-La Tolita, ca. 100-500 AD. A fine portait masquette in a coarse gray-brown clay. Youthful male face with pleasant somewhat tentative grin, revealing a fine set of teeth. Almond-shaped eyes with deep circular sinkings for the pupils. Beaded bandeau(?) at forehead. H: 4.6"; back wired for display. Found in La Tolita -- no such face published. Perhaps an import. The fine style suggestive of Veracruz. $175

374. Papua New Guinea, Sepik Region. An "Orator’s Stool", nearly 6 feet tall!!! It probably represents an ancestor. It is used in the men’s house, where a bunch of leaves or grass is left on the seat. Whomever holds this bunch "has the floor" and speaks as if he were in the presence and under the protection of the ancestor. It is not used as a seat, but is mainly used in rites and settlement of disputes. This very imposing example appears as a standing figure(on a base), with a flat platform behind. Beneath this "seat" are two crocodiles, left and right, and a standing human figure exactly behind. These three figures serve as caryatids. The main figure’s face is covered with clay, and nassa and cowry shells. There are also shells around the feet, wrists, bases of the caryatids, and on elbows. The main pigment is black, with red, yellow and white accents. H: 69". Most impressive!!! $2500
