272. Byzantine, c.6th - 8th Century AD. A lot of 3 interesting terracotta tokens? Each is impressed with an image in the manner of a lead seal or bulla. 2 of the pieces portray two figures flanking a large cross, and the third example appears to be a monogram incorporated within the four quadrants around a cross. Average diameter is 17.5mm. A group of interesting pieces worthy of further study. $150/3

273. S. E. Asia, early 20th Century. A nice compartmentalized wooden box with a sliding lid. Round at front and flat at the back, the squares compartments contain some residue of a sweet smelling substance. The lid is decorated with incised hatching. Some losses to one back edge, but an interesting piece. L: 5 ¾"; W: 2 3/8". $125
274. Cape Buffalo skull on oval wood mount. Often called the fiercest animal in all of Africa. From Halla Linker Collection. Popular TV travel show from the 1960's saw husband, wife and child David travel the world in pursuit of knowledge and collectibles. Measures from tip of horn to horn, 30.5". Excellent condition. 275. Acheulean hand axe, c.150,000 - 100,000 BC. France. A small hand-axe of the type commonly associated with Homo erectus. A good example from a distant ancestor. L: 4 7/8". From the Layton Wilkie collection. $200
276. Lot of 4 Mousterian (Neanderthal) flint tools from Tabun cave in Palestine, dating from 200,000 to 45,000 years old. All 4 are scrapers of tan and brown flint, with number written on each in fine black ink. Lengths from 2 3/8" to 2 ¾". From the Layton Wilkie collection. $300/4
277. Mousterian (Neanderthal) flint hand axe, c. 700,000 years old. From Grand Pressiguy, France. Nice grayish flint with an of sticker with site in ink. 665 in modern black ink on bottom. A nice example collected in the 19th century. L: 4". From the Layton Wilkie collection. $300

281. Neolithic flint flake knife, c.2500 - 1500 BC, from Cissbury, England. Nice grayish-tan coloring with 'Neohlitique" and "Cissbury" and 9865 written old black ink. Also 671 written in more modern black ink. L: 4 7/8". From the Layton Wilkie collection. $300
282. Saharan Neolithic, c. 4000 - 1000 BC. A lot of 12 stone points, 8 of the "stemmed" variety, 3 are of the bifacial type, one ribbed, and 1 is a scraper. Each point is intact and they all show a myriad of colors. The average size is about 1 ½" and they are all nice framed in a Cherry wood hinged display. $150
283. Saharan Neolithic, c. 5000 - 1000 BC. A nice group of 14 stone points, 10 of the "Eiffel Tower" variety and date from the earlier Neolithic, around 7000 years old. The other 4 are ribbed bifacial types and are good examples of their type. Each is in perfect condition and the display is very colorful and attractively mounted in a Cherry wood display. Average length is 1 ¾". $200

284. West Mexico, Colima, c. 250 BC - 250 AD. A tall and attractive red ware figure of a seated male with crossed legs. He has long and thin arms with hands resting on his knees. Solemn facial expression with eyes and mouth outlined in black polychrome. He wears small ear spools and turban headdress with vertically placed central adornment. Choice. H: 13". 285. West Mexico, Jalisco, c. 250 BC - 250 AD. A wonderful and exquisite red slip seated warrior wearing barrel armor and typical double spiked helmet. Bottom of barrel armor with white polychrome with thin vertical black lines all around. Upper armor and helmet with fine incised lines. Black linear war paint on his face. H: 14". Excellent condition with minor repair to twin spikes atop helmet. A choice and desirable piece! From old Los Angeles collection. $2000
286. West Mexico, Nayarit, c. 250 BC - 250 AD. A standing red slip figure of a woman nursing her baby with right hand and holding large cup with left hand. Highly detailed; she wears multi-looped earrings on both ears and banded turban headdress. Her hair is finely incised and she wears armbands and skirt with mouth open exposing her teeth. Original black polychrome still evident throughout. Slight repair to toes on right foot. From old Los Angeles collection. Choice! H: 14". $1500
287. Mexico, Veracruz, c. 600 - 900 AD. A large and wonderful dark crème slip seated figure of a seated priest. He wears large and highly detailed headdress and large ear spools. Necklace consists of 10 large beads with animal head shaped pendant. Around his waist is a large and wide belt and in his right hand which rests about his knee he hold a small club-like implement with the head of a serpent at one side and multi-indented texture to other side. Mouth and eyes are openwork. Finally he wears sandals with ornate leg bracelets above each (left one with losses). All on rectangular base which is part of original figure, 6" x 10"; repair to left rear. H: about 12". Choice and rare! Worthy of a strong bid. From old Los Angeles collection. $2500
288. Mexico, Aztec, c. 1375 - 1500 AD. A wonderfully carved basalt mask of a Howler monkey. Face with large round eyes and open round mouth, which exposes fangs. Nose and ears are also detailed. A quality carving with crème colored patina on pale brown stone. H: 6", W: 6.5". Choice. $1900
289. Mexico, Aztec, c. 1375 - 1500 AD. A rare lidded "snake" offering vessel with coiled rattlesnake nicely detailed atop lid. Snake's mouth with ancient hole drilled horizontally from one side of mouth to the other. Heavy round bottom section with multi-loop design around the entire outside. Slight pedestal base. A quality carving with crème colored patina on pale gray stone. H: 7", D: 7.75". Choice! $2300
290. El Salvador, Maya, c. 600 - 800 AD. This highly unusual polychrome Chiefs bowl is 7-1/2" in diameter and features four seated figures, each depicted with a ball. This rare depiction is actually painted on the lower half and underside of the bowl, with the broad rim band consisting of nicely detailed jaguar heads and date symbols. The interior consists of six vultures, each with speaking glyph, surrounding a series of concentric circles. An uncommon example. $700
291. Honduras, Maya, c. 600 - 800 AD. A choice polychrome turtle bowl from the Ulua Valley, 5-1/2" in diameter. The head, legs and tail of the turtle are molded in high relief and the body is decorated with a series of traditional step pyramid designs. The underside is decorated with a crosshatch pattern and the interior with red and orange paint. $500
292. Dominican Republic, c. 1000 1400 AD. Wonderful Taino Zemi in stone. Found in Boca De Yuma, These Zemis were thought to represent Taino deities, and were known to have been used in ceremonies held by village Caciques. Most Zemis represent skeletal or skull deities from the afterlife and were attributed supernatural powers. This piece depicts human-like creature on belly with simplistically stylized head, large pointed handle for torso and hind legs protruding at back. In excellent choice condition with no visible loss. RARE! $650
293. Dominican Republic, c. 1000 1400 AD. A Taino Zemi in stone. Found in Boca De Yuma, The Taino people produced three-cornered stones, known as trigonolitos, over a broad expanse of time that allowed for evolution of their form. Early examples are small in size and believed to have been privately owned, while later larger sculptures may have been used in public ceremony. Trigonolitos are known in plain and decorated examples, and, as they are concave on the bottom, many do not sit comfortably on a flat surface. A prevalent image among them is that of this compelling face, with large, sunken eye sockets and a wide, toothless mouth. The face has a particularly fierce, skeletal aspect, an imposing quality often found in Taino art. This example bears a pattern of concentric circles on its opposite side. Used in ceremonial gatherings and attributed supernatural powers. In excellent condition with no losses. L: 7", H: 5.25". RARE! $650
294. Dominican Republic, c. 1000 1400 AD. A nice Taino Zemi in pale brown-crème colored stone. From the region Boca De Yuma, in the This Zemi is carved in the shape of a dagger with a reptilian head sculpted as the handle. Found in choice condition wonderful surface condition. L: 7.75". RARE! $500
295. Columbia, c. 1000 1400 AD. Lower Magdalena, Sinu, Tolima, an interesting "tondo style" round bowl with raised pedestal stand with open work. Incised design on stand and to outside of bowl. H: 4.25", D: 10.25". Small age crack and natural wobble, but a pleasing example. $225

296. Dominican Republic, c. 1000 1400 AD. Taino circular stamp seal with sculpted lizard atop and incised grid pattern on bottom H: 1.75, D: 3.75". Chipped with some losses and repair. $100
297. Dominican Republic, c. 1000 1400 AD. Taino a tall and impressive crème slip vessel with oblong and bulbous body and double sectioned and incised neck. Top section of vessel's neck has incised small bowl with small (chipped) opening. Bottom section of vessel's neck as 2 small heads protruding at sides, one with losses. H: 11.5". Choice and quite desirable! $250
298. Dominican Republic, Taino, c. 1200- 1500 AD. A large "olla" nicely executed in natural light brown. Bowl measures approximately 10" at its widest point by 6" in height. Nice incised geometric pattern decoration surrounds vessel. Two charming frog "adornos" at each side of the bowl serve as handles. Found in very good condition.

299. Costa Rican/Nicoya, c. 1100 - 1250 AD. An interesting utilitarian set of co-joined cups. Measures approximately 8 ¼" in length by 4" in height. Vessel executed in medium brown with some white painting remaining. Some losses to rim is evident but in good overall condition. $100
300. Venezuela, Timoto Cuica, c. 1000-1400 AD. A nice "bat wing" stone pendant measuring approximately 2.5" in height by 7.5" in length, for similar examples refer: "Venezuelan Archaeology" by Irving Rouse and Jose Cruzent, Fig 29B. Found in fair condition with some chips to edges but with no repairs evident. The Timoto Cuica culture developed in the Venezuelan sierra around the town of modern day Trujillo. $150
301. Columbia, Tairona, c. 1000 - 1300 AD. A large round effigy in light brown slip. Vessel is approximately 10'' in height. Effigy comprises of two round lobes representing adorned female. Vessel has nice deposits and has some losses to neck otherwise found in good sound condition. $550
302. Colombia, Narino Quillasinga chalice, c. 850 - 1500 AD. . Vessel has a spotted jaguar in black resist paint over red. Feline holds bowl shaped chalice from its base atop. Nice detail and facial expression. This cup with circular base measures approximately 6.25" in height with a 6" bowl diameter. Found in choice condition with no restoration or damage, it has some nice surface deposits attesting to its age and wonderful appeal. $250
303. Colombia, Sinu, c. 600-1500AD. A lower Magdalena bone carved amulet. It depicts priestly shaman in wonderful detail showing cone headdress. It is carved in wonderful detail with a rich patina attesting age. Height 3 ½". Found with only minor loss to the tip of headdress but otherwise in nice condition. The tribe known as 'Los Kogui' are today's custodians of the Tairona culture. They have a population of approximately 12,000 people and they prefer not to mix with outsiders. Few Colombians, or those from the outside worlds, are allowed to enter their mountain in Sierra Nevada range of Colombia. Theirs priests still were very similar hats as is depicted on this figure. $200
304. Colombia, Sinu, c. 600 - 1500 AD. A lower Magdalena bone carved amulet. It depicts a shaman in lying position on bed and probably under hallucinogenic trance. It is carved in wonderful detail with some surface abrasion but do not detracting from appearance. It measures approximately 3" in length. $200
305. Columbia, Calima, c. 1000 - 1500 AD. An effigy in tan slip. It depicts character in upright position dressed in typical Tairona attire. Vessel measures approximately 7" in height. Found in excellent condition with no apparent restoration. $300.
306. Colombia, Tairona, c. 1000-1500AD. A dark jade necklace. It is approximately 17" in length, all of the small semi-barrel shaped beads were polished in antiquity and with wonderful luster. Necklace has been strung with modern clasp and is ready to wear. Excellent condition. $300
307. Colombia, Tairona, c. 1000-1500AD. A green stone necklace. It is composed of large tube beads some over an inch in length and approximately 25" in length. The necklace has a wonderful carving of a frog in red carnelian at its center measuring about an inch in length. It is found in excellent condition and very wearable. $300
308. Colombia, Tairona, c. 1000-1500AD. A nice necklace in agate. It is composed of some large and round beads with the larger ones measuring up to an inch in diameter. Necklace has wonderfully colored light orange to red beads with surfaces showing age and antiquity. Strung with a modern clasp and measuring around 18.5" in length. In excellent condition of preservation and wearable. $300
309. Colombia, Tairona, c. 1000-1500AD. A nice necklace mainly made of shell, jade, and agate beads. The highlights of this 17" long ancient necklace are the unique "bala" or bullet Tairona beads together with a striking effigy as its centerpiece. This pendant carving is in agate and depicts a standing human figure with hands held to stomach; with lovely detail measuring 0.75" in length. Necklace is strung with a modern clasp and ready to wear. $300
310. Columbia, Narino, Tuza, c.1200 - 1500 AD. An attractive tan slip bowl with tall sides. Inside is a pleasing decoration consisting of a central deer surrounded by a tight geometric design. A nice piece with some repair. H: 4 1/8"; W: 7". $150
311. Columbia, Narino, Tuza, c.1200 - 1500 AD. A nice tan slip footed bowl with four quadrants painted in brown consisting of geometric designs and water birds. Attractive with some repair. H: 3 ¾"; W: 7 1/8". $150
312. Colombia, Tumaco/Tolita, c. 200 - 400 AD. An erotic effigy depicting both a grinning male and female couple engaged in erotic petting each holding each other's sexual organs. It is mounted measuring approximately 6.25" in height in the stand, and 4.75" without. Found in a good state of conservation with losses to side arms but not detracting from its visual effect. $200
313. Ecuador, Guangala, c. 450 BC - 400 AD. An excellent 4" high, stemmed goblet with flared base, featuring two bands of finely incised design panels. Highly burnished. See Amerindian Signs, page 104, for similar. $425
314. Ecuador, Guangala, c. 450 BC - 400 AD. An exceptional hollow sello (roller seal), 2-3/8" x 1-1/4". This early example features beautifully detailed mythical feline, backed by a panel depicting the lightning serpent and geometric designs. A rare example in perfect condition. $300
315. Ecuador, Guangala, c. 450 BC - 400 AD. A fine Guangala whistle figure, 7-1/2" tall. This superbly detailed female is posed standing, with arms at the sides. Clothing and jewelry are indicated by delicate incising and the elongated head is decorated with additional designs. $450
316. Ecuador, Huancavilca, c. 500 - 1450 AD. Rare ancient form of money. These four tumi-shaped copper pieces are 3" long and were used as trade currency. In excellent condition, with nicely oxidized patina. This group comes in mounted in a display case. $200
317. Ecuador, Jamacoaque, c. 300 BC - 300 AD. A matched pair of felines, 4-1/2" long, mounted on a 4-1/2" x 3-1/2" platform. Each is somewhat different, one slender and alert, depicted upright, the other heavier and crouching. Both are nicely detailed, with a friendly appearance. Nice gold pigment remnants. $500
318. Ecuador, Jamacoaque, c. 350 BC - 400 AD. An adorable Maternal Group, 4-1/2" high. She is posed seated, with the beautifully detailed baby cradled in her lap. She is wearing a long skirt and is adorned with extensive jewelry, including large ear ornaments and a necklace tied in back. Nice gold and blue paint. $475
319. Ecuador, Jamacoaque, c. 350 BC - 400 AD. A group of five (5) roller seals, 2-1/4" - 2-3/4" long. Each is incised with different stylized designs. See Cummins Huellas Del Pasado for similar examples. $250
320. Peru, Chancay, c. 1100- 1350 AD. A rare rattle crafted as a medallion with loop intact. This rattle in full working condition measures approximately 4" from loop to base. Rattle depicts an X symbol painted in typical Chancay ochre over white slip. The roundel is in excellent condition found solid with no damage and minimal surface wear. Also included is a nice late Inca Arybalo, ca 1450 - 1550 AD. It is painted in ochre dark brown over cream and is a nice utilitarian vessel depicting typical Inca designs. H: 5 ½". Found in good condition with only a minor chip to the lip of the rim. 2 pieces in the lot. $200/2
321. Peru, Chancay, c. 800 - 1250 AD. A large and impressive crème slip ceramic anthropomorphic vessel in the form of a seated male figure with large egg shaped body. Round and bulbous jug as the body of portly shaped male with thin arms represented by slightly raised and brown painted arms stretching across his chest and holding a small offering cup with both hands. Legs are represented in similar fashion with horseshoe shaped design. Wide spout of vessel is depicts detailed and nicely painted face with large round ear spools and multi-ridged vertically banded headdress. In choice condition
with minor age cracks at spout. Still worthy of a strong bid. From old Los Angeles collection. H: 16.5". $2000
322. Peru, Chavin/Salinar, c. 200 BC - 100 AD. An important single stirrup bottle in white slip with crab decoration in fine-line style. Abstract decoration may also portray face of a feline as seen from afar to both sides of the bottle. This vessel is also one of the earliest representations of later Moche fine-line examples. Refer Christopher Donnan and Donna McClelland - Moche Fineline Painting. Vessel measures 8 ¼" in height. Ex Arte Primitivo, a wonderful addition to any established collection. Found in perfect condition with no restoration and only minimal loss to slip in small areas. $1800
323. Peru, Chavin, c. 1200 - 200 BC. A ceremonial stone mace. It measures 3 ¼" in diameter at its widest point. It depicts 3 perfectly detailed felines as if in leaping motion. These adornment animals with tails extended circle the edges and have been carved from the single stone. This ceremonial stone mace or "macana" has a wonderful patina throughout and some erosion consistent with its age. $900
324. Peru, Chavin, c. 1200 - 200 BC. A fine stone mace head, 3-1/2" diameter. Carved from dark hard stone, with two cutting ridges and four nodes on each side. A formidable weapon. See Ancestors of the Inca, page 103. $450
325. Peru, Chavin, c. 1200 - 200 BC. An important single "Chongoyape" stirrup black ware bottle. Vessel executed in typical incised "Dragonian" style portraying central main feline jaguar deity to both sides of the bottle as well as on either side of the handle. Classical Chavin abstract decoration also depicts serpent deities on both sides of the vessel. It measures 8 ¾" in height. Found in perfect condition with only minimal wear consistent for a vessel of its age. $1900
326. Peru, Chavin, c. 700 - 500 BC. A small and finely carved soft stone pallet with 4 small inlaid turquoise beads, each representing an eye. Both sides are carved with incised geometric designs but only one side with small round indentation for ointment and cosmetic storage. Short and flared and holed handle with square body that has 2 small inlaid heads at top. Choice! H: 2.5". $250
327. Peru, Chavin, c. 700 - 500 BC. A finely carved soft stone pallet with 12 small inlaid turquoise beads on the sides and on the top of 3 heads which are at the top of the piece, each representing an eye. Both sides are carved with incised geometric designs but only one side with small round indentation for ointment and cosmetic storage. Flared and holed handle with square body that has 3 small inlaid heads at top. Choice with some repair. H: 4.5". $450

329. Peru, Chavin, c. 700 - 500 BC. A crème slip ceramic whistle in the shape of a phallus. Single side of whistle with human figure in standing posture, wearing a tall and round crowned headdress, right hand on his chin and left holding a long implement. The arms and legs of the figure are rather stick-like. H: 5". Choice condition. $300
330. Peru, Chavin, c. 700 - 500 BC. A small and interesting dark stone finial in the style of a feline. The piece is basically phallic shaped with highly stylized head and body of cat throughout carving. Carved from a dark stone. H: 2". $200
331. Peru, Chavin, c. 700 - 500 BC. A small incensario of mottled green stone in the shape of a highly stylized human head. Large and deep hole goes from top on head towards bottom of neck. Quite interesting and choice! H: 3". $500
332. Peru, Huari, c. 650 - 800 AD. An attractive ceramic bowl with "Sun" motif. Deep ceramic bowl with two small loops handles at opposite sides just below rim. Outside of bowl is painted at opposite sides with Sun depicted with rays and smiling face. Some rim chipping and age cracks. H: 3.25", D: 5.25". Nice! $500
333. Peru, Nazca, c. 650 - 800 AD. An attractive ceramic bowl with "rodent" motif. Small and deep ceramic bowl with detailed paintings of 6 rats around the outside painted in shades of brown, yellow and crème colors. Choice! H: 4", D: 3.25". $400
334. Peru, Lambayeque, c. 700 - 1350 AD. This fine, 9-1/4" high, zoomorphic vessel features a llama draped across the body of the chamber. The animal is formed in nice detail, with the necklace extending from the braided handle indicating that this depicts a domesticated animal. $650
335. Peru, Lambayeque, c. 700 - 1350 AD. A wonderful whistling vessel, 6-3/4" high, depicting a long-beaked bird perched on a pair of joined squash. Good tone on the whistle, nice paint, deposits and root marks. See Arquelogia Andina - Peru, page 228, for similar example from Madrid's Museo des Americas. $600
336. Peru, Moche II, c. 100 - 200 AD. An excellent Mountain Scene, 8" high, depicting a finely detailed feline draped over the sacred mountains. The cat is shown with its open mouth exposing sharp fangs and is painted with decorative designs. Intact, with minor surface deterioration and root marks. $1250

338. Peru, Moche, c. 200 - 400 AD. A small, hollow burnished red-slip ceramic effigy figure with typically large eyes, ears and nose and has both arms across his chest. He holds rope-like cords with both hands. Choice with age crack on backside. H: 3". $150

340. Peru, Moche, c. 400 - 700 AD. An unusually large vessel depicting an agrarian deity in a form morphing a squash with a bird. It is 10 ¼" high, 6 ½" in diameter and is painted with cream pigment over orange-buff clay. $600
341. Moche III or IV, c.500 - 700 BC. A nice fine line tan slip bowl with handsome water birds painted around the upper portion. The inside of the bowl is a darker brown color. Intact with a minor rim chip. H: 3 3/8"; W: 3 ¼"; L: 6". A scarce and interesting piece. $300
342. Peru, Moche, c. 400 - 700 AD. A small bronze mask with openwork eyes and articulated earrings and single nose ring. Headdress at top with raised rectangular shaped mouth. Slight losses to headdress and age crack at chin. Otherwise choice and rare with attractive pale green patina! S: 3.25" x 4.25". $400
343. Peru, Nazca, c. 150 - 300 AD. A large polychrome Cup depicting serpent tongue protruding with feline attributes. The mythological creature surrounds entire vessel. An early phase example of Classical Nazca, it measures 5 ½" in diameter by 5 ½" in height. Vessel has a small round professional repair but it is overall in excellent condition. $650
344. Peru, Nazca, early period, ca. 150 - 300 AD. A wonderful little miniature flared cup executed in wonderful polychrome. This rare example measures approximately 2 ¼" in height by 3 ½" in diameter. It depicts 2 Nazca mythological creatures to each side of the cup. These insect deities were most likely associated with agriculture and fertility rites. Both insect show the traditional trophy heads surrounding central and a number of appendages. This little gem has vivid paint and incredible detail throughout; there is some professional repair to one side. But it is otherwise in wonderful condition and a highly collectable. $550
345. Peru, Nazca, c. 200 - 400 AD. A lot of 2 items. A wonderful and colorful long sash used to hold bundles together. Textile has intricate characteristic geometric pattern and displays rich cochineal red tones despite age. Measures over 7 feet in length and choice! Also a sling manufactured from local sisal and over 30 inches long from late Nazca to early Huari, c. 700-900 AD. One side of the sling has a different weave and pattern from the other. This example displays an interesting style, different from the most commonly scene examples. 346. Peru, Nazca, c. 200 - 400 AD. An exceptionally large polychrome bowl. It measures just below 9" in diameter, 4 ½" deep. This curious thin walled vessel features several upside fish on the one half of the bowl, and 4 large tadpole/frogs are painted on the other half. Fauna, which is often associated with water and life cycles. Vessel is found in exquisite condition choice condition with nice deposits to its belly. $950
347. Peru, Nazca, c. 250 - 450 AD. A nice Peregrine Falcon single spout stirrup effigy. Vessel decorated in red, cream/white and black paint. Falcons were considered one of the Nazca's main deities. It measures approximately 4 ¾" in height by just under 4 ½" in length. There are some losses to surface consistent with age but it is otherwise intact. $800
348. Peru, Nazca, c. 250 - 450 AD. A rare and wonderful fish polychrome vessel. It measures just under 8 ¾" in length by 4 ½" in height. It depicts large fish with several other smaller ones neatly painted in rows on the side of body probably inferring ingestion. Back tail displays twin severed heads. Some loss to the tip of spout otherwise found in choice condition. $1300
349. Peru, Nazca, c. 250 - 450 AD. A large and dramatic looking pear shaped polychrome trophy head vessel. Cup measures 7 ½" at its widest point by 7 ½" in height. This trophy head cup presents a striking depiction of the Nazca major deity, the peregrine falcon. The falcon has its eye brows are painted as long feathers, and also wears traditional head band or "Vincha" around its head. Found almost in choice condition with a possible stress crack stabilized. $900.
350. Peru, Nazca, c. 250 - 450 AD. A bridge handle double spout polychrome vessel. Measures approximately 4 ¼" in height. It depicts traditional main feline/bird Nazca deity in flying motion with ceremonial knife in hand and a number of taken heads as part of its regalia. Found in very good condition with some surface loss consistent with a vessel its age. $650
351. Peru, Nazca, c. 250 - 450 AD. A large and strikingly beautiful polychrome double chamber single stirrup vessel. It measures about 10" in length by 7 ¾" in height. Vessel depicts a most probably a lord or priest, arms placed on chest are executed in relief and hold robe. Noble is portrayed wearing elaborate and attractive headdress resembling rays of the Sun. Found in excellent condition with no apparent repairs or restoration, bar small chip to the top of the headdress. $950

354. Peru, Paracas, c. 200 BC - 100 AD. A unique large size trophy head. This vessel executed in ochre tone browns, red and white colors. Striking morbid expression of pain and horror mouth fully opened as to ready to cream. It shows between the eyes that end of the rope that was usually placed in order to hang the trophy in display. It measures 7 ½" in height. Some surface loss to surface as well as chips on teeth, but otherwise in excellent condition. $1800

356. Peru, Vicus, c. 250 - 800AD. A wonderful single spout bridge handle stirrup. This lovely duck vessel painted in dark brown hues with beautiful negative resist waving decoration on body perhaps imitating ripples in water. Bird's round beak is wonderfully executed with open nostrils atop in similar resist decoration. It measures 7 ½" in height by 7" in length; its rotund base has an approximate 6 ½" in diameter. Found intact solid condition with no restorations. $800
357. Peru, Viru, c. 1 - 100 AD. A wonderful Gallinazo-Viru single-spout bottle in a traditional avian form, 5" diameter, depicting an owl. The head is finely formed, with details delicately incised and remnants of intricate negative resist designs remaining. A rare example in excellent condition, with nice mineral deposits. $700
358. Peru, Inca, c. 16th Century. An early colonial pottery kero. Vessel display some early Spanish lead base painting green over cream, decorated with faces along the rim. Some evident fading to the paint but intact and in nice condition. It measures approximately 4.75" in height by 2.25" in diameter. Also included a small 16th century Inca burial-offering effigy in pottery. H: 2" and in choice condition. Plus a small Inca/Colonial bronze amulet, ca 16th Century, in the shape of a ceremonial knife or "Tumi". It measures 2.5" in height,. Intact condition. 3 interesting post conquest pieces. $300/2

359. Peru, Inca, c. 1300 - 1450 AD. A large copper mace head, 4-1/2" in diameter, 1-3/4" high. This lethal 5-pointed star type was wielded as a powerful weapon. Heavily oxidized patina. $500
360. Chile, Mapuche, c.1200 - 1400 AD. A stone fertility effigy that is probably some form of pestle. The idol-like figure is of standing man with both hands resting on his waist. Head is of triangle shape with slit eyes and frowned expression; lower torso of hourglass shape. Carved from a smooth green stone. Rare! H: 4". This one is unique and very sought after by Pre-co collectors. The Mapuches successfully resisted many attempts by the Inca Empire to subjugate them, in spite of lacking a nationwide organization.
The Mapuche fought against the Spaniards, and, using the Bio-Bio River as a natural frontier, they resisted colonization from the 1500s through the 19th Century.

Vertical zigzag designs adorn entire outside of vessel in beautifully painted reds, browns, whites and blacks on orange slip. Slight age cracks on rim. Single loop handle. Pottery from Bolivia is rare and seldom offered. Ht: 10". $500
362. Bolivia, Pucara/Tiahuanaco, c. 400 - 800 AD. A nice and rare incised kero vessel, which is executed in medium brown slip with an extended Puma head at the center of its scalloped rim. Incised decoration points to early Tiahuanaco. It measures approximately 7 1/8" in height. Some restorations to cracks evident as well some chips to rim. However all authentic, the Puma head executed in wonderful detail. An overall rare and interesting type. Ex Arte Primitivo. $900

The larger antelope figure stands on rectangular with rounded corners wood base and bears proportionally large head with long neck and tall and horizontally incised and banded antlers. The baby's long neck and head with smooth antlers protrudes from mother's back. Wood is old with numerous age cracks. Old repair evident to one of the mother's antlers. About 24" tall. 370. New Guinea, Sepik River, 20th century. An elaborately carved "food hook". Scarified ancestral figure stands holding a long bird with each hand and wears a crocodile head atop his head. 371. A cluster of 3 trilobites, Lower Cambrian, c.520 Million Years Old. Paradoxides sp. (Order: Redlichiida; Suborder: Redlichiina; Superfamily: Paradoxidoidea; Family: Paradoxididae). From the Atlas mountains in Morocco, North Africa. Paradoxides are amongst the larger of trilobite species in the world, although they also come quite small. This is a nice trio of specimens with some minor restoration, as these ancient creatures are almost never found entirely complete. 17" x 14" and a good display piece. Also included a plaster cast of an interesting fossil fish, quite large, about 19" x 13". $500/2

He holds a long slender club in his left hand and supports it on top of his left foot. In raised right hand he holds a wide bladed axe. Some restoration and with a small chip on his right elbow. Unusual and rare example, where both male and female protrude from the main body of the vessel, may probably emphasize fertility courting or celebrate a dynastic embrace. Found in choice intact with minimal surface loss. $1250
