801. Ancient Egypt, XVIII Dynasty, 1539 - 1292 BC. A very fine carving of a small cream colored stone or ivory human hand. This excellent carving was attached to a larger figure. The thumb touches the first finger forming a circle within which some object could have been held in place. The knuckles and fingernails are very carefully carved. Ex Viola Galleries, New York, 1967. On small custom stand. One of the finest studies this cataloguer has ever seen of the human hand, and it is incredible to think it was carved nearly 4000 years ago. View Item   $1000

802. New Kingdom, Late XVIIIth Dynasty, 1353 - 1292 BC. A Pottery Ushabti with fugitive polychrome additions in red, white, yellow and black. Inscription reads "Illuminate the Osiris Amen-em." ("Osiris" is spelled rather Strangely, and the owner's name seems to be incomplete-it should be " Amun-em-opet" may be the scribe ran out of room, a hypothesis Supported by the fact that the epithet "true of voice" is also lacking.). Attractive and in great condition for this type. H: 16 cm / 6.5 inch. From Tell-el-Yehudia. A good type addition to any ushabti collection. View Item   $1250

806. New Kingdom, XVIIIth - XIXth Dynasty, 1539 - 1190 BC. A basalt statue of a woman, with heavy wig and arms pendant at sides. Very well carved with attractive features and a nice smooth finish. Some loss of arms and legs and some minor restoration on face and edge of wig. A great piece. H: 19cm / 7 5/8". On nice stand. View Item   $7500

807. New Kingdom, XIXth Dynasty, 1292 - 1190 BC. A large limestone 'false' canopic jar depicting the Baboon-headed god Hapy, which protected the lungs. Nicely detailed, very substantial and in perfect condition. H: 25cm / 10". The 'false' canopic jar came into being when the internal organs started to be placed back in the body cavity. The part of the funerary equipment consisting of the canopic jar set continued to be employed however, although in many cases the jars were placed in four holes which were cut into the floor of the burial chamber instead of being placed in a box. See the plan for the tomb of Ramses IX at Thebes. Canopic jars of any kind are seldomly seen in today's market place and this is a fine example of the artform in its' later stages. View Item   $6000

A carved steatite plaque depicting a stating male figure before a uraeus on one side and an inscription reading 'Amen-Re' from left or right on the other side. Some overall wear, but a neat piece. 809. 3rd Intermediate Period, Dynasty XXI - XXV. 1070 - 656 BC. A wooden figure of Ptah-Soker-Osiris. Depicted mummiform with original wooden base, into which has been fashioned a rectangular depression. Wears tripartite wig and a head-dress consisting of solar disc, plumes and ram horns. Additions to the eyes and false beard in black paint. Well carved and very attractive. H: 21.75". View Item   $2500

810. XXVth Dynasty, 760 - 656 BC. A wooden mummy mask with the deceased as Osiris, as symbolized by the green skin color. A nice example with facial details in black and white, and a head-dress composed of a white background and highlighted in blue and red. In nice condition with minor flaking of the gesso. 814. XXVth Dynasty, 760 - 656 BC. A fine seated bronze statue of Osiris wearing Atef crown and uraeus. He holds a crook and flail. A marvelous piece with sharp detail and inlaid greenish glass eye. Remains of gold mask still evident on the facial areas. The feathers of the Atef crown, originally attached as separate pieces, most likely silver, are now missing. Of hollow construction and a very attractive Egyptian bronze votive piece. H: 16.5cm / 6.5". View Item   $7500

816. XXVth Dynasty, 664 - 525 BC. A bronze statue of the ram-god Banebdjedet. He is depicted walking in ram-form with four heads, two facing forward and two facing backward. The four heads symbolize this god's four manifestations as soul or 'Ba' of Re, Shu, Geb and Osiris. Nicely rendered with good details and a pleasing brown patina. Intact save for just the feet. L: 6.5cm / 2 5/8". Mounted on a custom base. A deity rarely seen in bronze and an outstanding example. View Item   $4500

820. XXVIth Dynasty, 664 - 525 BC. A magnificent bronze statue of the Apis bull, striding rt., wearing solar disc, horns and uraeus. Well detailed with a vulture (goddess Nekhbet) with wings spread over the hind and shoulder sections, a small rug over his back. The bull also wears a broad collar around it's neck. Just a beautiful example and seldom seen in the choice state of preservation. H: 7cm / 2.75"; L: 7.5cm / 3". View Item   $5000

822. XXVIth Dynasty, 664 - 525 BC. Bronze Ram-headed god Khnum, with Anukis and Satis as his attendants. Nice dark green patina and looped at back, which has worn through. H:48mm. The attendants, or local gods Anukis and Satis along with Khnum formed a triad, or divine family. Such triads were formed throughout Egypt and were very popular, being centered locally in various regions. This piece is extremely rare in that Khnum together with Anukis and Satis are rarely seen in any form, particularly bronze. View Item   $300

823. XXVIth Dynasty. A bronze latus fish in beautiful light green patinated bronze. The sacred fish is recumbent on curved sled-like base with the front turned up beneath fish's mouth. There is a suspension loop (for amulet use) behind the headdress of Hathor: crown of uraei, cow's horns and sun-disc fronted by a serpent. The eyes, gill area and dorsal fin are carefully incised. Length: 14 cm. See Steindorff, Egyptian Sculpture in Walter's Art Gallery, No. 697. A choice example, complete and intact. View Item   $4000

A very pleasing example with sharp details and great style. In choice condition. H: 6.3cm / 2.5". 846. XXVth - XXVIIth Dynasty, 760 - 405 BC. A very handsome acacia wood figure of Horus in Falcon form, wearing a solar disc. Very nicely carved and gessoed with additions in black and tan over a bright yellow base. Spotting over the body is achieved with this blue glazing which has gone black in places. Legs consist of two sticks with feet highlighted on the base. In perfect condition and a most impressive creation by some unknown ancient artisan. H: 15.5cm / 6.25". View Item   $3000

855. Late Period, c.664 - 336 BC. A large faience amulet of god Pataikos, in naked dwarf form. His hands are placed on his belly and he wears a scarab upon his head. Upon the base is incised an Udjat, Eye of Horus‚. Intact with a slight chip on shoulder. A marvelous piece. H: 5.5cm / 2 1/8". The Pataikoi are named from a passage in the writings of Herotodus describing Phoenician dwarf-form protective images. Pataikos perhaps represents a form of the craftsman god Ptah. View Item   $1000

861. Late Period, c.664 - 336 BC. A nice wooden shrine with a panel on each side depicting two images of Maat (truth), holding a feather in each hand, flanking Thoth, who sits above a lot0us flower. The back panel also depicts an image of the goddess Maat, flanked by two sacred eyes. Above the entrance to the shrine are two images of winged uraeii with a central solar disc. Very colorful with some paint loss, but rare a very attractive and large piece. H: 46cm / 18.25"; L: 43cm / 17.5"; W: 26cm / 10.5". Within the shrine would have been placed a scared figure, such as a Soker figure. View Item   $3750

862. Late Period, c.664 - 336 BC. An impressive wooden panel from the lid of a coffin. Depicts a broad collar with pendant beads. Below the collar is the beautiful image of the goddess Maat (truth), holding a feather in each hand and wearing a solar disc. Below the goddess are four vignettes, each with an image of one of the four sons of Horus. Long column of funerary invocation text runs down the middle. Very attractive and of quality workmanship. Colors include yellow, white and red. H: 48" (4'). Some erosion at the bottom. A very nice decorative piece. View Item   $7500

Nicely style with a lion's head at the top the a pair of lion's feet at the base. Painted with dark blue and red details over a golden yellow base. Intact with very minor paint chipping and a small area of loss on the edge of one. H: 31cm / 12.5", mounted together on a custom black base. A scarcer and more interesting funerary piece. 877. Hellenistic Egypt, c.336 - 100 BC. A beautiful bronze 'Horn of Ammon'. Cast solid and carved with elegant rows of ridges and a delicate curve. A rare intact example with a choice brown patina with reddish 'Nile Patina". L: 9cm. Ammon was originally the god of the Egyptian city of Thebes. Later he was associated with Zeus and worshipped in many places, including the famous oracle at Siwa Oasis. 1063. Iran, Susa, c. 700-800AD, an extremely large and impressive blue glaze ceramic storage vessel. Multi-horizontal "rope" shaped bands adorn the vessel from top to bottom. Additional zigzag "rope" designs at 4 separate levels at mid-section of jar. Bulbous body with tapered neck leading to large opening (12" in diameter). Greenish-blue dripping glaze covers pot except for bottom portion. Choice condition and rare this large and nice. A fantastic decorator piece! Height is 44.5" and at least 1" thick throughout. 1076. Persia, c. 1000 AD. a square carved alabaster intact inlay with Kufic script around the perimeter. Each line of script fills one side and is set off by elliptical designs on each corner. Within a square frame is a central standing elephant within a circle with its trunk curled well below the head of the elephant. A dove with opened wings stand on each side of the circle. 1081. Central Asia, Uzbekistan, Northern Bactria, c. 300-200 BC. a gilt silver pendant in the form of a bald man’s head. His eyes and ears are formed with applied wire design. His neck terminates in a serpent’s head with two small snakes forming a pair of horns. The pendant is hollow and well-formed. It is looped atop for suspension on a necklace. H: 40 mm. Still wearable! 1082. Central Asia, Uzbekistan, Northern Bactria, c. 300-200 BC. a pair of gilt silver rhytons, each with the forepart of a wolf. The conical cup part of the rhytons have decorated bead-like bands as do the wolves. The cup tops are lightly flared, one showing finer work than the other. The wolves' mouths are open. H: 10 cm diagonally from top of cup to wolves’ paws. See A. Belinitsky, Central Asia, pl. 32, 35-36. 1087. Saudia Arabia. c.19th Century. An old silver mounted Jambiyya with belt. The blade is double-edged and slightly curved with medial rib and a ornate silver sheet covering part of the horn hilt. Sheath lined in felt and with some silver mounts with elaborate embroidered metal work. The belt is fine multi-colored fabric with a buckle and decorated with some old Saudia Arabian coins.
