1. Jordan, c. 4000-3800BC, a lot of 3 polished white marble mace heads,; two with signs of repair; all ovoid in shape. Dimensions: 5cm-6.3cm. Cp. P. Bienkowski, The Art of Jordan, pl. 104. These early mace heads were probably more symbolic than functional although they could have done some considerable damage. These seem to be a link between Egyptian and later Mesopotamian and Luristan mace heads.  view item  $ 400/3

2. Sumeria, Jamdat Nasr, c. 3000 B. C. an important carved alabaster cup with pouring spout. The handle is carved with a lion advancing upward opposite the spout. Chevron designs with drilled circles adorn the front of this extraordinary vessel. The pedestal is similarly designed. The lion is similar to lion amulets accredited to Jamdat Nasr. 3. Akkad, c. 2200 B. C. a bronze ram in reclining position, his head to the side. W: 25 mm. This probably is either an early weight or a handle used in conjunction with a cylinder seal.   view item  $ 200

5. Old Babylonian Period, c. 1900-1750 B. C., a small square clay tablet of administrative text for a receipt of one-third of a shekel of silver for "Awil-Adad" and for "Shesh." The single cuneiform signs in the last line "egir" means "after" but it is unclear in the context of this undated example. Dim: 28 x 25 mm.   view item  $ 350

15. Post Hittite, c.1200 B. C. a long-handled bronze stamp seal with a six petal base. The handle has a "hammer" top with a suspension hole somewhat worn-through atop the handle. The base is inscribed with a small recumbent animal at the top of five petals and a scorpion in the sixth petal. A round guilloche houses a flying bird. H: 4 cm, D: 2.5 cm. cp. D. G. 26. Urartu, c. 860-750 B. C. a steatite seal amulet. This unusual type of seal is comprised of a cylinder which is inscribed on the sides like an ordinary cylinder seal but it is also carved on the round base on the bottom of the seal. The top has a small loop carved out of the steatite. The cylinder design depicts two facing griffins with an ornate "tree of life" between them. The base has a bold single griffin. 27. Urartu, c. 860-750 B. C. a bronze seal amulet of similar but narrower dimensions than above example. The cylindrical face reveals a seal scene depicting a worshiper, the tree of life, crescent moon and a tall pole. The base has a recumbent lion. The top of the seal is a janiform figure of the fertility god, Pazuzu. Unpublished. H: 35 mm, base:8mm.

30. Urartu, King Argishti c. 786-764 B. C. a bronze seal stamp seal with four panels each with incised figures of standing gods and tree-like symbols. 31. Urartu, King Argishti c. 786-764 B. C. a bronze bell-shaped stamp seal with a flying Pegasus on the round base. The top of seal is looped for suspension. This example shows a bit of ancient corrosion spotting on the base which slightly detracts from the flying horse. H: 16 mm. 32. Urartu, (Ancient Armenia), c.900 ­ 750 BC, Belt fragments; three fragments from an important bronze incised belt. Width 3.75". On the longest fragment L: 35cm are two beautifully incised animals; the design is continued on a 30 cm fragment and the smallest L. 9.5 cm just has geometric designs. Interesting and attractive. EGYPT

33. c. 10th-11th Dynasties, a finely carved wooden statuette of a kneeling boy or perhaps a slave. Right arm is missing from shoulder; boy stares forward with left arm and hand paralleling left leg. He rests on balls of knees and toes. Fingers well defined on left hand. On wood base. Nice overall condition. H: 7.9cm.   view item  $ 700

34. Middle Kingdom, 11th or 12th Dynasty, a superb diorite granite carving of a Pharonic head, possibly Seostris III or Amenemat III. Typical realism of the Middle Kingdom, He has large ears; headdress with ureaus (now missing) and floral collar. Nose repaired, some chipping. A wonderful overall example for that period. 35. New Kingdom, 1570-1070BC, a fine steatite cowroid with deep emerald green glaze. Nice domed back with a fish (Talapia nilatus) on the base. Measures 16 x 9mm and is a very choice specimen. Cf. Petrie, Buttons, Pl. XVI, 926.   view item  $ 400

38. 26th Dynasty wooden "Sokar" figure. Tall wooden Sokar figure wearing tall headdress, nicely painted and mounted in modern wood base. At feet is facing wood falcon. Much of original paint still evident. Numerous age cracks and chips. Proper restoration would greatly improve appearance and value! Sokar figure height is 39.5cm. 39. 26th Dynasty, a lot of 4 faience pieces. A pale green faience full ushabti and a pale blue upper portion of a miniature ushabti. Also are two contemporary pieces; a dark blue miniature ushabti and an amulet. Genuine ushabti is 11cm tall.   view item  $ 250/4

40. 26th Dynasty, a large cedar coffin panel with much or original gesso evident. Some evidence . Two funerary biers with evidence of remains of Anubis on each one. Inscription down center with bases of canopy to extreme right and left. Minimal insect damage. H: 36.5".   view item  $ 1000

41. Late Period, Ptolemaic c. 300BC, a mummified falcon. Wrapped in typical fashion, the beak and right eye cavity are revealed through gauze. In excellent condition. Comes with modern wooden sarcophagus nicely detailed in hieroglyphs. Length of mummy is 21.5cm.   view item  $ 2500

74. South Italian, Apulia, c. 340-330BC, a very large skyphoid krater belonging to the "Liverpool Group". Three reserve bands: one plain, one egg and dot, and one in wave patterns. On one side a nude Eros leans against square pillar and holds a situla. On reverse, a seated well dressed woman holds a situla and a tympanum. Below handles are acanthus palmettes. Details of both figures heightened in yellow and white. Vessel repaired with minor restoration. H: 10.5". a nicely drawn example, both for this period and this painter. Cf. C. a terra cotta "Tanagra" figure of a semi-nude Aphrodite, her right hand covering her breasts, her left covers her lower parts which are also veiled with a draping skirt over one, her left knee. Cupid was the Roman god of Love, son of Venus and Mercury; and in Greek mythology he was Eros, son of Aphrodite and Hermes. He took as his wife the beautiful mortal maiden Psyche...on the condition that he would join her only at night so she never saw his face.

150. Iran, AH 1299, an interesting zodiacal brass armillary with a central zodiac globe. There are five orbital planes each elaborately inscribed and decorated as is the globe itself. The outer globe has a cartouche within which the maker inscribed his name and the Islamic dates 1297-1299 probably indicating that it took him two years to finish this complicated job. 270. Roman Republic, c. 100 BC, an attractive life size marble head; of a nobleman? Elderly and stoic looking man, of typical fine style for the period. His hair and facial features are well defined. It was brought into the US in the 1920's from North Africa by the Spaulding Family who donated it to the Santa Barbara Museum of Fine Arts.
